ATTENTION!! – There are two videos at the end of this post showing how to make the blanket. You will see the first one immediately. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SCROLL TO FIND THE SECOND ONE! It has space between the two videos! – Thank you!
I have always loved the look of a chunky blanket but not the price of them. After searching for the right yarn I decided to try making one for myself! I bought my yarn from Hobby Lobby and it is the Bee brand yarn.
I want my blanket to be a warm blanket so I am making my loops small and tight. How big you make your loops will also decide how much yarn you will need. I want a bigger throw so I will be using 10-12 skeins of yarn.
Below you will find two videos. The first video is the starting process for the blanket and the second video will show you how to end the blanket. Video 1: Starting the blanket Video 2: Ending the blanket.
The blankets we are making in the video will be about a 4ft by 6ft blanket. We will be using 10-12 skeins of yarn each. I strongly suggest buying 10 skeins and returning what you don’t use. I hope you enjoy the videos and give this amazing blanket a try!
Love your DIY’s Barb. You are so talented.
Great video, I am going to make the big chunky blanket this weekend.
Thanks!!
How many aliens do you need?
How many rolls of yarn is needed for a throw blanket
Love, Love, Love this!!! I am going to make some for presents too!!!
What size yarn and how do you know how soft to buy it.i want to try this.
HELLO,
I AM LEFT HANDED, WILL THE BLANKET LOOK THE SAME OR WILL IT BE BACKWARDS.
Loving the look of these. I am going to try this.
Barb,
Which yarn did you use on yours please?
Hobby Lobby says the skeins are 17.5 ounces each. They are $13.99 each on sale right now. Does this sound like the size you used and will I need 12 skeins of this for a large blanket?
Thanks so much!
What do you do with the yarn thats overhanging from where you started the blanket at the beginning? Can’t wait to try to make this. Thank you.
Hey Barb I am interested in making a Queen Size Chunky Blanket for my sister for Christmas, how many Skeins of Yarn would you think I might need to purchase.??
Also, do you kno the Bar Code # for the Yard.?
Tks, ❤️ You and The Shabby Tree🌲🥰
Do you simply tie on the yarn as a skein ends and then trim the ends?
Yes!
So it will take about $200-$220 to make the one that Barb is making! That’s an expensive throw! Who can afford that!
Omg, this is the best tutorial I have ever watched!! I know I can do this!!! Never thought I could!! Making these for Christmas gifts!!! Thank you so much!!!!
I am so going to try this as soon as I find the chunky yarn on a great sale. I’m on a very tight budget due to being on disability and cant afford alot of things beyond my bills and necessities but I love love love this and love blankets (I spend alot of time in bed unfortunately so this project is perfect for something i will get great use out of. Please keep people posted of the cheapest places this yarn can be found. Thanks
I was not able to view the second video to finish my blanket. I only saw the beginning of the ending
Nikki
Barb, I know in the video you stated that you wanted one to be bigger, to fit your bed….I have a queen size bed and I would rather have one for my bed. I dont use throws because I have a joint disease so i am down in bed alot, so I have a love and passion for soft cuddly blankets for my bed, since that’s where I spend most of my time. However, with that said, a bigger blanket calls for more yarn, which calls for more money and being on disability makes me on a tight budget, so my question is how many skeins did it take for you to make a chunky blanket for a queen sized bed? Or how much do you you think it would cost to make one? I’ve seen others making them in color and I’d love to try to do blues and grays possibly, if this is something I’m even going to be able to do. I cannot sit for too long or stand for too long plus the disease (ankylosing spondylitis) I also have arthritis in my thumbs, fingers and wrists so I’m hoping I can even make one. The winter months are horrible for my body (I live in Indiana so you can image the temps) Thank you for any info you can pass along to me on this and God bless you for sharing all of your creativity. I get very bored and since finding your lives, its given me some things that I’ve actually been able to do and feel good about myself in doing(ive never been artsy or creative). Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday.
I love the bunny runner!!!!!!
I will have to try this technique for the throw soon. I will have to run to Hobby Lobby for yarn!!!!
this is great
Great video tutorial!! Has anyone tried using the Bernat blanket big yarn? Would it work as well as the Yarn Bee? Thanks for your help.
I have searched your BLOG high and low multiple times for the second video for the chunky throw and can not find it. Is there anyway you can email the second video to finish the chunky throw please?
