Ok I’ve been decorating for Halloween and I seem to have a vintage theme going on. After looking at my decorations I thought it would be fun to try and make a tree that has a vintage feel to it.
The supplies that I’ll be using are:
1. Black felt
2. Paper towel holder from the Dollar Tree
3. Poly – fil
4. Spanish moss
5. Surebonder fabric glue
6. Elmer’s glue
7. Needle and black thread
8. Beaded garland from our website
9. Scissors
10. Star Craft glitter and the colors are Pirate’s Booty and Swordfish
The first step is to cut the felt. I cut 2 triangles and 1 circle.
You can cut your triangles any size that you want. Mine are 20 inches wide and 13 inches tall.
The tree will be sliding onto the paper towel holder so you don’t want to make it too tall.
You will want to cut the circle of felt big enough to cover the bottom of the paper towel holder.
You will cut a slit in the center of the circle to slide it down onto the paper towel holder.
The next step is to glue the two felt triangles together. I started at the top and worked my way down.
Be sure to push down on the edges so that the glue will hold.
You will want to leave an opening at the bottom to add the stuffing.
Once you have it stuffed you can glue the opening smaller. You will still need to leave an opening at the bottom center so that you can slide it onto the paper towel roll.
Once I had the tree onto the paper towel holder I then tucked in the corners of the tree.
The next step is to sew on the beaded garland.
You will want to cut the end of the garland and tie a knot around the end bead.
I then used the thread to sew the garland in place.
When I got to the end I cut the string to the garland and tied it with the thread. You will then sew a few more stitches to secure the end in place.
Once I had the garland sewn on I then added the glitter. You will want to the Elmer’s glue first.
I added the Elmer’s glue in sections and then I sprinkled on the glitter.
I cut two pieces of felt to create a crescent moon tree topper.
I added a small amount of glue to the top to hold the two pieces together.
I added some of the Swordfish glitter to the center and then glued it onto the top of the tree.
I added some Spanish moss to the bottom.
I just love how this tree turned out and I think I’s going to go very well with my decorations. You can make this tree any color that you want. I hope you will get creative and give this a try.
