DIY Light-Up Easter Egg Makeover: Easy and Festive Spring Decor

by blewis | Feb 19, 2025 | Holiday | 55 comments

It’s time to start thinking about your Spring and Easter decor. I recently found a ten inch clear plastic egg from Walmart that I want to get creative with.
You can find this egg on Walmart by clicking my referral link down below.
https://walmrt.us/4b0htSb
You can find the list of supplies that I’ll be using for this diy down below.
1. One 10” clear plastic egg
2. Spanish Moss
3. Enamel spray
4. Mod Podge
5. Brown multi surface paint
6. Paint brush
7. Flower sprigs
8. Hot glue
9. Battery operated string lights
10. Rice paper
You can find the rice paper that I’m using on European Excellency by clicking referral link down below.
https://europeanexcellency.com/?ee=6
The first step is to cut your rice paper into the shape of an egg.
You’ll want to add some Mod Podge onto the egg and then add the rice paper. Be sure to add more Mod Podge over the rice paper.
Once you have the rice paper in place you’ll then paint the egg.
I’m using Real Brown by FolkArt on my egg. You can use any color that you want.
It will take at least two coats of paint with drying time in between each coat.
I used an x-acto knife to cut across the rice paper to allow the egg to open.
I gave the egg a coat of a clear enamel spray to protect the paint.
The last step is to add the moss and flowers to the outside edge of the rice paper.
You’ll want to glue the moss on first and then add the flowers. I’m using small flowers from floral sprigs.
Once you have the moss and flowers added you can then add the lights to the egg.
You can find the lights that I’m using on our website by clicking the link down below.
https://theshabbytreeboutique.com/shop-mBiWY/p/50-count-battery-operated-wire-lights
You can place the egg in a candle ring to add more flowers. This egg was so quick and easy to make and will look great any where in your home.
I hope you’ll get creative and give this light up decoration a try.

I love it Barb the only thing I might do is brighten the egg up to a spring color. But I know it’s supposed to look like a chocolate egg very creative.

How interesting!! I would never have thought of this idea. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have a cat that knocks everything over so I could have decorations like these but maybe I can try something similar to decorate at my tea shop!

Oh my goodness, that’s so pretty, I love it 💞💞💞!!! I’m wondering how it would look attaching the strand of lights at the halfway point up in the top of the egg so the lights are all throughout it…just a thought 🥰. I do believe I will be trying this one though, it’s too pretty not to 😍!
