I recently found some chenille pipe cleaners that sparked my creativity. Their soft, fluffy texture makes them perfect for crafting! With Christmas around the corner, I decided to use these versatile pipe cleaners to create an adorable Christmas elf.
You can find the list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. One elf head ornament from Walmart
2. Chenille pipe cleaners
3. Red and white pipe cleaners
4. Brown pipe cleaner
5. Hot glue
6. One 2.8 inch styrofoam ball
7. Scissors and a knife
8. Clear tacky glue
9. Fine red glitter
Start by cutting the bottom of the Styrofoam ball to create a flat surface. This will help your project sit securely and stay stable as you work.
The next step is to cut the bottom part of the elf head off.
You want to be able to add the head to the styrofoam ball.
You’ll want to add the chenille pipe cleaner to the styrofoam ball before adding the head.
Start by inserting one end of the chenille pipe cleaner into the top of the Styrofoam ball. Wrap the pipe cleaner down along the ball’s surface, creating a smooth curve. Then, trim the pipe cleaner, leaving enough length to insert the other end into the bottom of the Styrofoam ball. This will secure the pipe cleaner in place and provide added structure for your project.
After the Styrofoam ball is fully covered with the chenille pipe cleaner, use hot glue to attach the elf’s head securely to the top of the ball. Make sure it’s centered and firmly in place before moving on to the next step.
I added a white chenille pipe cleaner around the neck area.
I created some feet to glue to the bottom.
I trimmed off some of the chenille and then glued them in place.
The next step is to create some arms for your elf. I folded one of the red and white pipe cleaners in half and twisted it together.
I used the scissors to poke a small hole into the elf and then placed the arm into the hole.
I added a little piece of a white pipe cleaner to the end of each arm.
I added a dark brown pipe cleaner around the waist. The last step is to cut the top part of the hat off. This is the hanger part.
I stuffed some of the styrofoam into the hole and then covered the red glittered part of the hat with a clear tacky glue.
The last step is to sprinkle on the red glitter.
This elf was so quick and easy to make. I love how you can use different heads to make different dolls. I hope you’ll get creative and give this diy a try.
