I have been pulling out all of my Americana decor and I wanted to create a few flowers to add to some of it. There are so many different flowers that look good mixed in with red, white and blue but I want to add some red poppy flowers.
The supplies I will be using are :
1. An egg carton
2. Hot glue
3. Scissors
4. Green pipe cleaners
5. Paint brush
6. Black construction paper
7. Americana acrylic paint ( colors Black, Tuscan Red and Cadmium Yellow)
The first step is to cut the egg carton into sections .
You will want to form the sections of the egg carton to look like a flower as shown in photo below.
Once you have the egg carton cut and the flowers formed you will then paint them red.
You will set the flowers aside to dry and cut strips out of the black paper. My strips are about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long.
Once you have the strips cut you will then create small cuts going down the strips as shown in photo below.
You will roll the strips up as shown in photo below.
The next step is to paint the center of the flowers black.
You will want to poke a hole through the center back side of the flower. I used a wooden kabob stick or a thick needle would work well.
You want to poke a hole so that you can stick the green pipe cleaner through the center of the flower as shown in photo above.
I curled the end of the pipe cleaner a few times and then added some hot glue to the inside center of the flower.
The hot glue will help to hold the pipe cleaner in place. You will then place the rolled black paper over the pipe cleaner and down into the hot glue.
The last step is to add some yellow paint to the green pipe cleaner in the center of the poppy.
These are very easy to make and will look great added to almost anything. I found it fun to add a few to some old vintage spindles. I hope you will get creative and give this easy Diy a try.
