Diy Tree Made Out Of Cardboard

by blewis | Nov 8, 2024 | Christmas/Winter, Everyday DIY, Holiday | 20 comments

If you’re following The Shabby Tree then you already know that I love having different trees throughout my home. I thought it would be fun to make a unique tree out of some cardboard.
You will find the supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. One sheet of cardboard
2.One large sheet of shipping paper
3. Hot glue
4. One 5 gallon stir stick
5. Antique wax by Waverly
6. Paint brush
7. X-acto knife
8. Styrofoam
9. Wooden star cut out
10. Wooden box from the Dollar Tree
11. One craft stick
12. Ruler stick
The first step is to create a pattern for your tree. Your tree can be as big or as small as you want. My tree is 18 inches long because I want to cut my strips for this tree 2 inches wide which is why I wanted an even number.
You’ll want to trace your pattern onto the cardboard. Be sure to have the cardboard going horizontal. You will be peeling off some of the outer layer of cardboard to show some of the corrugated cardboard.
Once you have the cardboard cut you’ll then make a mark every 2 inches down the tree.
Draw lines going across and then use the x-acto knife to cut them out.
The next step is to stain all of the wooden pieces.
Once the wooden pieces are stained you’ll then add the styrofoam to the box.
Glue the cardboard pieces onto the stir stick. Be sure to glue the top pieces at the wider end of the stir stick. You’ll also want to be sure to leave an inch at the top back side to glue the star in place.
Once you have the cardboard pieces glued in place you’ll then rip off some of the outer layer.
Once you have some of the cardboard ripped off you’ll then stain the cardboard.
Add the star to a piece of a craft stick and then glue it to the top back side of the tree.
You’ll want to stick the bottom part of the tree into the styrofoam. It’s easier to get it down into the styrofoam if you make a slit into the styrofoam.
This tree was so easy to make and turned out amazing. I love how the cardboard looks like wood. I hope you’ll get creative and give this diy a try.
