Spring is here which means summer will be here soon and so will the butterflies. I love to sit on my porch and see the butterflies go to my flowers. We are always creating here at The Shabby Tree and I thought it would be fun to create a few butterflies to add to my porch decor.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. One whisk from the Dollar Tree

2. Two sets of doilies from the Dollar Tree

3. One pack of nautical rope from the Dollar Tree

4. Hot glue gun

5. Scissors

6. Wire cutters

7. Needle nose wire cutters

8. Pruning shears

9. One craft stick

10. Silicone mat

The first step is to cut off the lower metal ring around the whisk. I found that using my pruning shears made this step so much easier.

Once I cut the small ring apart I then used my wire cutters to pull each piece off.

You will now want to separate each loop of the whisk forming the butterfly.

You will use four of the loops for the wings and the last one you will cut in the center to create the butterfly’s antennae.

It is now time to add the doilies to the wings. You will want to lay one of the loops onto the doily. Be sure to stay to the end of the doily so that you can cover two wings with one set of doilies.

I added hot glue all around the loop and on top of the loop.

You will then press the second doily over the loop. This is easier to do on a silicone mat. The hot glue will come through the lace and onto the mat.

You then cut around the loop forming the wing to your butterfly.

You will do this to all four loops of the whisk.

You can trim the antennae but you will want to leave them long enough to curl the ends.

I then glued the craft stick onto the center of the butterfly.

It is now time to add the nautical rope. I first glued it onto the craft stick.

Once I had it glued to the craft stick I then glued it to the rim of the wings.

You can create this butterfly using any type of material that you want. I love my lace and neutrals and I just love how it all looks together. This will be a fun butterfly to add to my porch decorations for the summer. This is so easy to create and all of the main supplies can be found in the Dollar Tree. I hope you will all get creative and give this a try.
