Spring is right around the corner and I want to start decorating my porch. It is always hard to decide what to put on a porch because of the weather. We have created a lot of items for outside using the wire basket from the Dollar Tree. This basket can be used inside and outside. I want to add a few fun and unique items to my porch decorations. We can easily create a fun hat out of one wire basket from the Dollar Tree. This hat can be created so many different ways. I will be making two different hats out of these baskets that I will be using on my front porch.
The supplies I will be using are:
1. Two wire baskets from the Dollar Tree (one basket for each hat)
2. Wire cutters
3. Scissors
4. Hot glue
5. Burlap (I am using burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby)
6. Greenery from Hobby Lobby
7. Wire (I am using a jute wire I purchased from Amazon)
7. Flowers (I will be using Dollar Tree flowers and coffee filter roses)
The first step is to clip the larger ring off of the basket.
You will then form your hat. This hat will resemble a top hat. You will want to bend the bottom part of the basket outward. These baskets are very easy to bend and stretch. I like to pull outward to help widen the basket.
Once you have your hat formed you will cover the top and sides with burlap.
I glued a piece of burlap to the top of the hat. I added hot glue all around the top edge of the hat. I then trimmed all the excess off.
I then wrapped a strip of the burlap ribbon around the hat. I added glue around the top edge of the hat to hold the burlap in place.
Cut the end and glue it down in place.
I wrapped two pieces of greenery together with wire. I inserted the two ends of wire through the hat and twisted them together on the inside of the hat.
I hot glued two of the coffee filter roses to the greenery. You can find the link for the directions for the coffee filter roses at the end of this blog.
The second hat I created is slightly different.
You will cut the larger ring off of the basket but you will also cut the smaller ring off.
You will fold the wider end outwards.
Be sure to stretch the inside of the basket out as much as you can. This gives you a wider basket to work with.
I then slipped the basket over a glass bowl. I want to form a round top to this hat.
You will have a hat similar to the above photo after you fold the top part all in. You can use any size round bowl that you want.
I then glued moss all around the edge of the hat. I added two flowers from the Dollar Tree.
I used an old lamp as a stand for one hat and I will hang the other hat.
