If you’re following The Shabby Tree then you already know that I love adding a variety of lights throughout my home. We seem to be using a lot of message boards lately which got my mind going. I thought it would be fun to create a light up message board. This will be very quick and easy to make.
The main supply that I’ll be using is a shadow box. You can use any size shadow box that you want.
You can find a list of the other supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. Chalkboard paint
2. Painters tape
3. Metallic gold spray paint and Heirloom White spray paint
4. Piece of lace that is the same size of the shadow box
5. Battery operated lights
The first step is to cut the lace to fit the shadow box.
You’ll want to lay the lace onto the glass on the inside of the shadow box.
Once I had the lace on the glass I then sprayed the Heirloom White spray paint over the entire piece of lace.
Once you sprayed the lace you’ll then want to lift it up. The next step is to spray the Metallic Gold over the glass .
When you flip the shadow box over it should look something like the photo above. THE WORD IS BURLAP
The next step is to add the painters tape to the top side of the glass.
I went around the frame twice with the painters paint.
The next step is to paint the center of the glass with chalkboard paint.
I started with paint but decided I liked the chalkboard spray paint better for this part.
Once the chalkboard paint is dry you’ll then remove the painters tape.
I cleaned the edges with a small razor blade.
I decided to add just a touch of Gold Leaf Rub’n Buff.
I decided to make two small pockets using black fabric to hold my box to my lights. I’m using two strands of 50 count battery operated lights. I made a pocket in the upper left corner and bottom right corner on the back piece of the shadow box.
I decided to staple the lights in place.
This turned out amazing and I’m loving the lace print on the glass. My lights are timer so they will turn off and on by themself.
