I’m not a card maker but I do love getting creative and I love trying new things. We have made a variety of flowers here at The Shabby Tree and I’ve been wanting to try and make a pop up flower card.
The supplies that I’ll be using are:
1. One sheet of card stock paper (8” x 11”)
2. Book pages
3. Glue stick
4. Paper cutter
5. Scissors
The first step is to cut 7 squares from the book pages. I cut my squares 3 inches but you can make yours larger.
You will fold each square in half as shown in photo above.
You’ll then fold it in half again and then in half again.
Once you’ve folded each square in half 3 times you’ll then draw your petal as shown in photo above.
You’ll cut the petal out as shown in photo above.
Open up the paper to make sure the flower is how you want it to look. If you like the flower shape then fold it back up and use it as a pattern for the remaining paper pieces.
Cut out all 7 seven petals.
You’ll open up all 7 flowers and then you’ll want to cut one petal off of each flower as shown in photo above.
Once you remove the petal you’ll then add glue to the petal as shown in photo above.
Slide the petal with the glue under the next petal to form your flower cone shape. You’ll do this to all 7 flowers.
You’ll want to fold the flowers in half as shown in photo above. The next step is to glue all seven flowers together.
Take one flower and add glue as shown in photo above. The next step is to add 2 more flowers. Be sure to line one petal from the second flower to the glue dot on. the right. You’ll then match a petal from the third flower to the glue dot on the left.
You’ll now add glue to the center 3 petals as shown in photo above.
Place the fourth flower over the glue as shown in photo above.
The next step is to add glue to the two petals as shown in photo above.
You’ll match the petal to the fifth flower to the glue on the right. Once you have that petal in place you’ll then match the petal from the sixth flower to the glue on the left.
Add glue to the 3 petals as shown in photo above. You should have one flower left which is what you’ll match over the petals with glue.
Once you have the flowers all glued together you’ll then glue them to the inside of the card.
Add glue to the center petal as shown in photo above.
Place the glue side of the flower down on the inside of the card as shown in photo above.
Add some more glue to the petal on the other side of the flower as shown in photo above. You’ll then close the card and put some books on top to add some weight onto the card so that the flowers will glue in place.
Once the glue is dry you’ll then open up the card.
This might take a few tries but once you make one you’ll want to keep making more.
There are so many ways to get creative with these flowers. I hope you’ll have fun and give this a try. I used some paper to decorate the inside and outside of my card.
