While shopping at Walmart, I noticed they’re starting to stock new Christmas items! They have an adorable selection of Christmas paper plates and plastic containers. I found a cute gingerbread man plastic container that’s perfect for an easy DIY light-up holiday decoration.
You can find a list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. One gingerbread man plastic container from Walmart
2. Warm Caramel colored spray paint by Rust-oleum
3. Drill and drill bit
4. One inch hole saw bit
5. Clip light
6. Paint brush
7. Mod podge spray
8. Black, red and cream colored chalk paint by Waverly
To start, create a hole in the back of the gingerbread man container, where the clip light will fit. I used a hole saw bit for this step, but be cautious—my container did crack a bit during drilling. You might want to go slowly and apply minimal pressure to help prevent cracks.
You can find the clip light on our website by clicking the link down below.
Next, drill small holes around the gingerbread man’s buttons and along the trim areas. These holes will allow light to shine through, giving your decoration a charming, festive glow.
After drilling the holes, spray paint the entire gingerbread man container. This will give it a smooth, uniform look and set the stage for a festive finish.
The Warm Caramel spray paint color perfectly matches the base of the container, adding a rich, gingerbread-like tone to the entire piece.
After the spray paint has dried, apply a coat of Mod Podge spray and sprinkle cinnamon over it. This adds a realistic texture and a warm, cozy scent to your gingerbread decoration, making it even more festive!
You’ll want to add the mod podge spray and then the cinnamon. I did this process a few times.
The final step is to apply chalk paint to highlight details on your gingerbread man. This will bring out the features and add a soft, rustic touch to your holiday decoration.
This DIY gingerbread man was so simple to create and will make a charming addition to your Christmas decor! It’s a fun project that adds a festive, handmade touch to any holiday setup.
I hope this inspires you to get creative and give this festive makeover a try! It’s a fun way to add a personalized touch to your holiday decor.
