Dollar Tree Tinsel Star Makeover

by blewis | May 7, 2026 | Red, White, & Blue | 15 comments

I was recently in the Dollar Tree checking out their Americana items and came across some tinsel stars. These stars are cute as is but I thought it would be fun to give two of them a little makeover.
The supplies that I’ll be using for this makeover are listed down below.
1. Two stars from the Dollar Tree
2. Chunky yarn
3. Scissors
4. Hot glue
5. Lace from our website
6. Small clippers

The first step is to remove the tinsel from both stars.

The next step is to cut out the inner section of the star.

Once you have the inner section removed, you can then cut off all of the small tabs around the star.
The next step is to wrap the star with chunky yarn.

There’s no right or wrong way to do this step. I added small amounts of hot glue as I wrapped the yarn around the star.

Once you have the star completely wrapped with the chunky yarn, you’ll then add some lace to the back side.
I placed some hot glue to the lower inside area of the star.
You’ll want to repeat this same process with the second star.
Once you have both stars completely wrapped you’ll then want to glue both back sides together. Be sure to leave an opening at the bottom of the stars to add some lights.
You can find the lace and lights that I used by clicking the links down below.

This star was so easy to make and can be made in any color you want. I went with cream because it will look great in my home all year long. I hope you’ll get creative and give this makeover a try.
