I recently visited my local thrift store and discovered some fun tin cans. There are countless ways to get creative with these simple recycled materials, and I want to use them to craft a unique Christmas decoration that adds a personal touch to my holiday decor.
You’ll find a list of all the supplies I’ll be using for this project listed below, making it easy for you to gather everything you need to create your own festive tin can decoration!
1. Tin cans from my local thrift store
2. Hot glue
3. Clear gorilla glue
4. Eden colored spray paint by Rust-oleum
5. One wooden candle holder
6. Two 6″ wooden legs from Home Depot
Step 1: Paint the Tin Cans and Wooden Items
The first step is to spray paint the tin cans and any wooden items you plan to use. Choose festive colors that fit your Christmas theme, and make sure to apply even coats for a smooth finish.
Step 2: Remove Screws from Wooden Legs
Step 3: Assemble the Pieces
Once all the pieces are spray painted and completely dry, it’s time to glue them together. Use a strong adhesive to attach the tin cans to the wooden legs, creating a sturdy and unique base for your Christmas decoration.
I added a small amount of hot glue and Gorilla Glue to each piece for added security. This combination ensures a strong bond, keeping your decoration intact for the holiday season.
Start by placing the larger containers at the bottom and gradually work your way up to the smaller containers. This arrangement not only adds visual interest but also ensures stability for your Christmas decoration.
I chose not to use any of the lids from the containers for this DIY project, allowing for a more open and versatile design.
added a variety of greenery to each tin container to create the appearance of a fun and unique tree. This adds a fresh, festive touch and enhances the overall holiday vibe of the decoration.
You can find some of the greenery I used for this project on our website by clicking the links below. This makes it easy for you to gather similar materials for your own festive decoration!
