DIY Advent Calendar Using Paper Frames

by blewis | Aug 31, 2026 | Christmas/Winter | 0 comments

I love getting creative and I’m super excited to get creative with a frame creativity box that we recently put in our website. This creativity box has paper frames in it that will allow me to make a fun and very unique advent calendar.
You’ll find the list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. One 18”x24” canvas
2. Mod Podge
3. Twenty five paper frames
4. Scissors
5. Box cutter or x-acto knife
6. Surebonder fabric glue
7. Twenty five burlap jewelry bags
8. Paint brush
The first step is to figure out where you want to place all 25 frames. Once you have them placed onto the canvas you’ll then mod podge them in place.
If your canvas has a wood strip going across the middle of the back side you’ll want to remove it. I used a small hand saw to cut mine off. You’ll be making each frame into a pocket which is why you’ll need to remove the wood strip.
Once you have all 25 frames mod podged in place you’ll then cut the canvas out of the center of each frame. I used a box cutter for this part.
The next step is to glue the burlap bags to the back side of the canvas covering the opening of each frame. I found that the bag fit better if you make small cuts down each side of the burlap bag.
You’ll want to add the surebonder glue going around the frame opening on the back side of the canvas. Once the glue is in place you’ll then add the burlap bag.
You’ll want to make sure the center of the bag is in the center of the opening.
You’ll do this to all 25 frames.
I decided to add a touch of Antique Gold Rub’n Buff going around the inside edge of each frame.
The last step is to number each frame. I ordered small metal numbers from Amazon for this step.
You can find these numbers by clicking the link down below.

I used some E6000 glue to attach each number to the canvas.
This advent calendar turned out Amazing and will look great displayed any where in your home. You can add small trinkets or some gift cards to each pocket. I always like adding a small message in each pocket to tell my child where to find their surprise. This will make a fun family tradition and I hope you’ll consider making this advent calendar.
