I love creating home decor using lace and doilies. We recently added a beautiful wide lace ribbon to our website, and I’m so excited to get creative with it. There are so many different ways to use lace ribbon in DIY home decor, but I thought it would be fun to create an Americana flag decoration.

You’ll find the supplies that I’ll be using for this flag listed down below.

1. Wide lace ribbon from our website

2. Two doilies from our website

3. One bling embellishment from Totally Dazzled

4. Scissors

5. Hot glue

6. Bowl and water

7. Deep Midnight Blue acrylic paint by DecoArt

8. Flamenco Red acrylic paint by Apple Barrel

8. One wooden board from Walmart

The first step is to cut your lace ribbon into strips to go across your board. My board measures 24” x 18”, but you can use any size board you want for this DIY Americana flag. I cut 7 strips of lace, and each strip was about 26” long.

You can find the board I used here: https://walmrt.us/3QqLdRY

You’ll want to color four of the lace strips with your red paint. I mixed the paint with a little water to help it soak into the lace and give better coverage.

You’ll want to do the same thing with the large doily using your blue paint, making sure to lightly dilute it so it soaks into the fabric for even coverage.

You can find the large doily that I used in this pack from our website: https://theshabbytreeboutique.com/set-of-3-grand-cream-doilies/?searchid=798169&search_query=set+of+3

The next step is to attach the lace strips and doily to the board, creating your Americana flag design.

The first step is to lay the lace strips across the board, as shown in the photo above.

Once you place the lace strips onto the board, you’ll then lay down the blue doily. Be sure to decide exactly where you want the doily before gluing the strips onto the board.
