While browsing the craft aisles at Walmart recently, I spotted a large wooden hang tag that instantly sparked a holiday DIY idea. We have a fun Santa towel available on our website, and I knew it would look adorable displayed on this tag!
The supplies that I’m using are listed down below.
1. One large wooden hang tag from Walmart
2. One Santa dish towel from our website
3. Fabric Mod Podge
4. Scissors
5. Paint brush
6. Hot glue
7. Silver tinsel
8. Small iron
9. Parchment paper
10. Spackling
11. Pearls with a flat back
12. White sparkle glitter
Start by applying a thin, even layer of Mod Podge to the surface of your wooden hang tag. This adhesive base helps secure the Santa towel and ensures it will lay flat. Be sure to cover the entire tag, especially the edges, so the towel adheres smoothly without any lifting.
Allow the Mod Podge to dry for a minute or two until it’s tacky but not fully dry. This will give a better hold for the fabric. Then, carefully place the Santa towel on top, pressing down gently to smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles. Make sure to align it just how you’d like it to appear on the hang tag!
Once you have the towel in place you’ll then add a piece of parchment paper on top.
With the parchment paper still in place, use a warm iron to gently press down on the tag. This will help smooth out any wrinkles in the towel and further secure it to the wooden surface. Move the iron in circular motions for a few seconds, ensuring you don’t leave it in one spot too long to avoid damaging the towel. Once you’re satisfied with the smoothness, carefully remove the parchment paper.
Once the towel is securely attached and smoothed out, use scissors to trim any excess fabric around the edges of the wooden hang tag. Be careful to follow the shape of the tag for a neat finish. This will give your DIY project a clean and polished look, highlighting the fun Santa design without any frayed edges.
You’ll want to glue the towel onto the edges of the hang tag.
Once you have the towel glued in place you’ll then want to cut the excess off.
You can find this wooden hang tag in Walmart in their craft section.
You’ll want to cut the towel first the hole of the hang tag. Once cut you can glue it to the inside edge of the hole.
The next step is to mix the spackling and glitter together in a small bowl. You can find the glitter that I’m using on 143 vinyl by clicking my referral link down below.
You’ll want to add the spackling to the beard, mustache, eyebrows and hat. Be sure press the spackling down onto the towel.
You’ll want to glue the pearls onto the little dots on the towel. You can do this before or after adding the spackling.
Once the pearls are glued in place you’ll then glue the tinsel going around the sides.
This hang tag was so easy to make and will look great mixed in with your Christmas decorations. I hope you’ll get creative and give this diy a try.
