It is Easter weekend and I thought it would be a great time to create a cross. We use a lot of items from the Dollar Tree here at The Shabby Tree and I seem to have a lot of their canvases. The Dollar Tree has a wooden craft section and I recently picked up a wooden cross from there. I wanted to create a fun and unique cross and something that I can hang or sit on my mantle.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. One 8×10 canvas from the Dollar Tree

2. A scrap piece of a lace curtain

3. Wooden cross from the Dollar Tree

4. Paint brush

5. Box cutter

6. Scissors

7. Hot glue

8. DecoArt Suede and color is coffee

The first step is to trace the cross into the canvas. I took the bottom of the cross off so that I can lay it onto the canvas. You can use any type of stencil you want for this DIY.

The canvas has a wooden frame around it and you want to be sure to leave enough space away from the wooden frame.

You will need to cut out the cross which is why you do. Not want to be too close to the wooden frame.

This is very easy to do with a box cutter.

Once the cross is cut out you will then paint your canvas.

I am using the Suede by DecoArt but you can use any color or type of paint that you want.

Once you have the front and sides painted and dried you will then add the lace to the back side of the canvas.

Once you have the front and sides painted and dried you will then add the lace to the back side of the canvas.

Be sure to make the material flush to the side of the frame. You will also want to be sure to stretch the material so that you don’t have any sagging.

Once you have the lace all glued in place you will then trim off the excess.

I love how easy this is to make. I wanted to add a pop of color so I decided to glue some green moss to the bottom of the canvas.

This cross can be hung on a wall or placed on a shelf or cabinet. You can take this idea and get creative with it. There are so many different patterns that you can trace onto the canvas. I hope you will all get creative and give this a try!
