I have been doing a few DIY’s using a metal mesh basket from the Dollar Tree. It worked amazing for my DIY decorative dress form and I knew there had to be a way to create flowers with it! I wanted to make a flower that can be used on my porch or out in my yard and this DIY ended up being perfect for both!

The supplies you will need are:

1. Metal mesh baskets from the Dollar Tree

2. Wire cutters

3. Glue gun

4. Scissors

5. Marker

6. A sheet of paper

7. Burlap

8. Tape measure

You can create these flowers using one basket or two. These are a metal mesh basket that measure 9 1/2 inches high.

The first thing to do is to snip off the top ring of the basket.

Now you will need to cut out a pattern for your petals to the flower.

I am using a piece of white paper to cut the pattern for my petals. First you will need to cut the paper to the length of the basket.

The diameter of the bottom of the basket measures 19 inches so the base of the petal needs to be about 3 1/4 inches wide.

I just drew the shape of the petal I wanted once I had the width.

The top of the petal can be wider because the top of the basket is wider.

I placed the pattern onto the metal basket and then used a black marker to trace it.

You will use the wire cutters to snip along the line of the petal you traced.

You will continue tracing the petals and snipping along the lines.

You should have 5 petals once you have gone completely around the basket.

I then traced the bottom of the basket onto a piece of burlap.

I cut the circle out and glued it to the center of the flower.

You can leave the flowers as is and just 5 petals or you can overlap one onto another.

I added some wire and a stick so that I can place one in my flower bed in my yard.

These flowers can be hung on your porch or put in your yard.
