Ok Fourth of July is right around the corner and I thought it would be fun to create a quick and easy flag.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. One stick from my yard ( mine is 24” long)

2. Four packs of nautical rope from the Dollar Tree 3. Scissors

4. Americana acrylic paint by DecoArt ( colors Tuscan Red and Deep Midnight Blue)

5. Twelve 1” round wood beads with a 3/8” hole

6. Bowl with water

The first step is to open the packs of nautical rope and cut them evenly in half.

Once you have the rope cut in half you will then unravel the rope as shown in photo below.

This will give you 6 strands for each pack. You will now have a total of 24 strands. You can set 3 strands to the side because you will be using 21 strands for the flag.

You will want to add some of the blue paint to some water. Start with just a little water and add more as you go.

You will want to color 6 of the strands blue.

You will also want to color 6 strands red.

The remaining 9 strands will stay the cream color that they are. You will want to let the red and blue strands dry before adding them onto the stick.

Once they are dry you will start with the blue and fold the strand evenly in half. You will fold it over the stick as shown in photo above.

Once folded over you will bring the bottom strands up and through as shown in photo above.

Once you have all six blue strands wrapped onto the stick you will then add a wooden bead to each blue strand.

The wooden beads will go onto each strand and pushed up at all different heights.

The next step is to add 3 white strands and then 3 red strands. You will alternate the white and red using 3 strands each until all of your 21 strands are added.

The painted strands seem to have shrunk a bit from the water and paint so you might need to trim some of the strands at the bottom. This flag is so easy to make and turned out great. I hope you will get creative and give this a try.
