I have a unique and fun gingerbread man cookie cutter that’s perfect for a creative DIY project. What makes it extra special is its tree-shaped design, which has inspired me to turn this craft into a light-up decoration!
We recently included this fun tree-shaped gingerbread man cookie cutter in our Gingerbread Mystery Box! If you’re inspired to craft along, check out the list of supplies I’ll be using for this DIY project below.
1. One gingerbread man tree shape cookie cutter
2. One flexible cutting mat from the Dollar Tree
3. Paint brush
4. Scissors
5. Brown marker
6. Ruler stick
7. Clear tacky glue
8. Fine gold glitter
9. Classic Green and Cinnamon colored acrylic paint by Folk Art
10. White acrylic marker
11. One clear plastic container from the Dollar Tree
12. One strand of battery operated lights
13. Spray adhesive
The first step is to trace the cookie cutter onto the cutting mat. You’ll want to use a brown marker for this
The next step to create your tree shape.
You’ll want to paint all of the gingerbread men with the cinnamon colored paint.
Once the gingerbread men are all painted you’ll then paint the tree with the classic green colored paint.
After painting the tree, the next step is to cut it out. Make sure to cut slightly outside the edges to create a border, as shown in the photo above.
Use a white acrylic pen to carefully outline your gingerbread men, adding detail and definition to bring them to life!
Feel free to decorate your gingerbread men however you’d like to add your personal touch! Once they’re finished, apply clear tacky glue around the edges of the tree to complete the next step.
Once the glue is in place you’ll then sprinkle on the glitter.
For an extra festive touch, you can add a small star to the top of your tree. Once your tree is complete, apply spray adhesive to the plastic container—an affordable find from Dollar Tree—to prepare it for the next step.
After applying the spray adhesive, carefully press the tree onto the plastic container to secure it in place.
To bring your project to life, add some lights to the container. I used a strand of 50-count battery-operated lights from our website. You can grab your own by clicking the link below!
This DIY tree was so simple to make and will add a festive touch to any spot in your home. I hope this inspires you to get creative and try this fun project for yourself!
