If you’re following The Shabby Tree then you all know that I am obsessed with any kind of lights. Since it is summer I wanted to find a way to make a fun lamp for my front porch. We have done a few DIY’s using the basket from the Dollar Tree and I knew it would be the perfect item to create a hanging lamp with!

The supplies you will need are:

1. Wire mesh basket (this one is from the Dollar Tree)

2. Glue gun

3. Zip ties

4. Jute (I purchased my jute from Hobby Lobby)

5. Scissors

6. Wire cutters

7. Light kit (I purchased this one from Home Depot)

The first step is to cover your basket with your jute.

I am using a natural jute from Hobby Lobby.

I am adding hot glue to the outside of the basket and wrapping my jute as I go. You will want to be sure to put a piece of cardboard down because the hot glue will drop through the holes of the basket.

You will continue wrapping and adding glue until the whole outside of the basket is covered.

Cut of your end and glue it down in place. You can add some extra hot glue to the inside of the basket to help secure the twine to the basket.

Your basket should be covered with your jute except for the bottom of the basket. You will now need to cut a hole to insert your lighting kit.

I bought my light kit from Home Depot.

You will need to cut your hole to the size of your light kit.

I then used zip ties to secure the light fixture in place.

Once the light fixture is securely in place I then cut off the excess pieces of the zip ties.

Your lamp should now look like this. You can get creative add add some decorations to your lamp.

I added a few doilies to the outside of the shade.

I used hot glue to attach them to the shade.

This can be hung in your home or outside. I hope you will all get creative and give this a try!
