I love having lights throughout my home, and I thought it would be fun to create a new lantern that we can add lights to. We’ve made a variety of lanterns here at The Shabby Tree, but I came up with a way to make a taller lantern. After looking through my craft supplies, I decided to use 4 cooling racks from the Dollar Tree to create a taller lantern.

The supplies that I’ll be using for this lantern are listed below.

1. Four cooling racks from Dollar Tree

2. Upholstery thread with needle

3. Scissors

4. Zip ties

5. Spray paint ( optional)

6. Lace Fabric

The first step is to attach all 4 cooling racks together using zip ties.

Once you have the zip ties in place, you’ll then use scissors to cut off the ends of the zip ties.

Once you have the cooling racks secured together, you can then spray paint them if you want. I decided to use a Heirloom White spray paint on mine.

The next step is to add the lace fabric to the cooling racks.

You’ll want to sew the lace fabric onto the cooling racks. I’m using an upholstery thread to sew my lace fabric on.

Once you’ve sewn the top, you’ll then see the sides in place.

You’ll need to cut the bottom of the lace off to sew around the bottom of the lantern.

I added a greenery sprig to the top with a bling broach. This looks beautiful with battery-operated candles.

I decided to change the lantern up and spray paint the entire lantern with brown spray paint.

I spray-painted the lantern brown because I wanted to add our brown cord twinkle lights to the inside of the lantern.

I love how this lantern turned out and I hope you’ll give it a try. This will look great anywhere in your home.
