The weather is getting warmer and when I think of summer I always think of Fourth of July. I love decorating my home with Americana decor for the summer. We have made a variety of Americana decorations here at The Shabby Tree but I am always for a quick and easy DIY. I found an easy way to create a fun and unique flag using four mop pads from the Dollar Tree.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. Four mop pads from the Dollar Tree

2. Hot glue

3. Scissors

4. Red paint

5. Blue paint

6. A piece of wood measuring 18” x 11”

The first step is to cut one mop evenly in half.

I added some of the blue paint to the two pieces of the mop pad. I dipped them into a bowl of water that I added some of the blue paint to. You want to color both of these pieces of mop pad blue.

I added just enough water to the bowl to dip the mop pad into. You will want to rub the blue paint all into the mop pads and then squeeze out the mop pads.

You will then cut the other 3 mop pads evenly in half long ways.

You will color three of the pieces red and leave the remaining 3 pieces white.

You will need to set the red and blue pieces aside to let them dry. I thought I would need to soak the white ones in white paint but they looked fine left as is.

Once all the pieces are dry it is time to glue them to your piece of wood.

I glued the two square pieces onto the upper left corner of the wood.

I then added the red and white pieces as shown in photos below.

It is up to you if you want to cover the sides of the wood. I had enough to cover three of the sides and I left the bottom side uncovered.

I then glued white pom pom’s on for the stars.

This flag is so easy to make and can be placed any where in your home. I love that you can create this flag to be any size that you want. I hope you will all get creative and give this a try.
