We have created a lot of things here at The Shabby Tree but we have never made a Nutcracker. I thought it would be fun to create a fun and unique Nutcracker.

The supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. One small round glass candle holder from the Dollar Tree

2. One straight glass candle holder from the Dollar Tree

3. Potato chip can

4. One recycled paper towel roll

5. Three red feathers

6. Hot glue

7. Gold ribbon or cording

8. Paint brush

9. Rust-oleum spray paint ( Flat Black and Heirloom White)

10. Acrylic paint by DecoArt ( Black, Santa Red, Metallic Glorious Gold and Deep Midnight Blue)

11. Small gold sticker embellishments ( I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby)

12. Faux white fur ( I purchased mine from Hobby Lobby)

The first step is to paint your main pieces for the Nutcracker.

The tall glass piece will get spray painted with the Flat Black.

The round glass piece will get spray painted with the Heirloom White.

I decided to spray paint the chip can with the Flat Black.

You will paint the chip can red about 4 1/2 inches down from the top. It will take a few coats to completely cover the black.

You will then paint the Deep Midnight Blue about 3 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the can.

I cut 2 pieces from the paper towel roll about 3 1/2 inches long.

You will paint both pieces with red paint.

The next step is to glue the paper towel rolls to the can.

I used the black paint to paint the black belt and then I used the gold paint to create the look of a buckle.

I added some more gold paint as shown in the photo above.

I glued a small piece of gold cording and the gold embellishments to the hat.

I glued on 3 red feathers and one gold embellishment to the hat.

I added some of the faux fur to the head as shown in photo below.

I glued the faux fur around the whole head. You can also add som decorative gold lace to the arms . This Nutcracker is very easy to make and looks great lit up

You can add a small battery operated candle to the head.

I also added some rocks from the Dollar Tree to help add some weight to the body of the Nutcracker.

This Nutcracker is very easy to make and I hope you will get creative and give this a try.
