We recently created a fun tree of life wreath here at The Shabby Tree and I loved everything about it. I love trees of all kinds and I thought it would be fun to try and create some type of paper tree.

The supplies that I will be using are:

1. One canvas ( mine is an 18×24)

2. Scissors

3. Brown paper lunch bags ( mine are from the Dollar Tree)

4. Hot glue

5. Americana acrylic paint by DecoArt ( colors Espresso, Cinnamon Stick, Open Water, Whispering Turquoise and Avocado)

The first step is to paint about 4 to 5 of the bags with the Espresso paint.

I cut the bottom of the bag off and then cut the bag to be one long sheet. You can completely cover the bag with the Espresso paint but I let some of the brown bag show. I also added just a little of the Cinnamon Stick colored paint here and there. You want to do this to both sides of the bag.

I set the bags aside to dry and I then painted my canvas.

You can paint the canvas any color that you like. I used the color Open Water first and then I added some of the Whispering Turquoise here and there.

Once I had the canvas painted I then started twisting some of the paper bag sheets together. I twisted 3 sheets together but I kept the center sheet up higher then the other two sheets.

Once I had the bottom trunk of the tree shaped how I wanted it to be I then glued it onto the canvas.

Forming the tree will take some time and playing around with the paper. I ripped some of the top sections into thinner strips as shown in photo above.

I ripped more strips from the other bags that I painted. You will twist the strips and glue them onto the canvas forming your tree.

Once I had my tree formed and glued onto the canvas I then painted a bag with the Avocado colored paint.

You will want to cut a few strips and then cut out some leaves for the tree.

I then glued some of the leaves to the tree as shown in photos below.

I decided to use a small craft stick and some twine to create a swing for the tree.

This tree can be made any size that you want . I love how this turned out and I hope you will give it a try.
