If your looking for a unique and fun Christmas decoration then your going to love this one. This can be put in your your home or hung outside .
The supplies you will need are :
1. Plastic hangers ( you will need 16 and I got mine from Walmart)
2. Scissors
3. Zip ties ( I have small and long zip ties)
4. Glue gun
5. Tinsel ( this is optional)
The first step is to take 8 hangers and start placing 2 hangers together at a time. You will be forming the first layer of your snowflake. It should look like the photo below.
I then took a few zip ties and connected the hangers together. I just placed the zip ties wherever I thought they should go to help secure the hangers in place.
Now it is time to take the other 8 hangers and form the second layer of your snowflake. You will be placing these hangers on top of your second layer but making sure to make them form the look of a snowflake. You will place them as photo below.
I then zip tied both layers together. I used as many zip ties as it takes to securely hold all the hangers together. You need to make sure all your hangers are secured and you can pick the whole snowflake up.
Once I had the snowflake completely zip tied together I then cut off the ends of my zip ties. It is now time to decorate your snowflake. You can add lights or tinsel like I added in photo above. I just took basic hot glue and glued tinsel to the other edge of of my snowflake. I then added some tinsel to the center. I will be hanging these outside from my trees. I might add some lights to them so they will light up at night. I hope you all give this fun diy a try.
Barb, this is a great diy. Just beautiful!

Snowflake is too flimsy. How did you make it stiff??
I started making the snow flake. 1st 4 are together. Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow.
My 3 year old granddaughter and I made a snow flake for her parents for Christmas. So much fun. Thank you Barb
Having the same problem, they want to colllaspe, have you figured out what the problem is,if so please comment, i bought hangers at Dollar tree and thought maybe they were to flimsy.
How can I get it firmed up? It is very flimsy
If anyone has access to a drill, I drilled a hole in the thickest part in the center to put zip ties in. Holds it a lot sturdier.
Trying to make clothes hanger snow flake I cant figure out what wrong. They overlap to much in center then when I pick it up it like worps. grrrr!!!I’ll keep trying I dont give up easy do you pull ties right? I tried hanging it but it doesnt lay flat. Hummmm! Thank you
I’m using a glue gun. Toddler hangers are much easier. Good luck.
Its words because the zip ties might not be tight enough. If you think they are good then just adjust the hangers to make the shape. I beleive the middle is going to be thicker. Hope this helps.
Sound like you may have tightened your zip ties too tight too soon. The snow flake needs to be flexible until you’re ready to tighten it up at the end.
Try putting ties on a little loose and tighten them a little at a time.
Barb, once my hangers were put together, it wouldn’t stay opened …. what did I do wrong? I followed your instructions, and it looks right except for when I put clothes it up it doesn’t stay open so I can hang it
Is there a DIY for smaller snowflakes? I have 2 palm trees in front of my house and the big snowflakes won’t look good. I’d like to make a few small ones. If so which store carries them. Thank you
Thank you for sharing
Hi Barb , I made three of these and added lights for back yard …love you they turned out. Please add the directions for the angel when you can?
Do you have directions on making an angel from hangers
Beautiful
You had a really pretty red one like this white snowflake, but I can’t seem to find the picture, it had flowers on it. I loved it.
I made the coat hanger snowflake – mine will not hang flat- it wants to fold up – are my tie wrap too tight?
I’m excited to try this

I saw smaller hangers at Dollar General would they work making a smaller snowflake
That’s garland, not tinsel, tinsel is the skinny individual silver strands
