Fall is approaching and we have been creating a lot of pumpkins here at The Shabby Tree. I love creating fun and unique things and I have an easy way to create a fun light up pumpkin.

The supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. One 11 X 14 in canvas

2. One 8” embroidery ring

3. Scissors

4. Hot glue

5. Exacto knife

6. One 8” doily 7. One piece of burlap ( mine is about a 9 x 9 square

8. Americana acrylic paint by DecoArt ( colors Blue Haven, Open Water and Spiced Pumpkin)

9. Green Spanish Moss

10. One flat wooden stem

11. Paint brush

The first thing that I did was color my doily with the Spiced Pumpkin colored paint. I added some paint to a small amount of water and dipped in the doily.

You will dip the doily into the paint mixture and then squeeze the doily out. I laid my doily out in the sun to dry.

The next step is to paint the canvas. I did one coat of the Blue Haven and then added some of the Open Water.

Once you have the canvas painted you’ll want to cut out a hole smaller then the embroidery hoop.

I cut mine up a few inches from the bottom of the canvas because I’ll be adding moss at the bottom.

I’m only using the center embroidery ring and I painted it with the Spiced Pumpkin colored paint.

Once you have the embroidery ring painted you’ll want to glue on the burlap.

Once you have the burlap glued to the embroidery hoop you’ll want to trim the burlap.

The next step is to glue the embroidery ring to the canvas.

You can cut small slits on the backside of the canvas to help secure it to the embroidery hoop.

Once you have the embroidery hoop glued onto the canvas you’ll then glue on the stem and the doily.

I added the green Spanish moss to the bottom of the canvas and to the top of the pumpkin.

I added a strand of battery operated lights to the back of the canvas.

The lights will allow the pumpkin to light up.

This is a very easy pumpkin to make and will look great any where in your home. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.
