DIY Star Decoration Using Wooden Stars

by blewis | May 12, 2025 | Red, White, & Blue | 28 comments

I love decorating for Summer and I love adding some of my Americana decor. We recently put some fun wooden stars on our website that I thought I would get creative with.

You’ll find the list of supplies that I’ll be using for this diy down below.

  1. Six wooden stars ( 6 inches)
  2. Drill and drill bit
  3. Waverly Truffle chalk paint
  4. Waverly Antique Wax
  5. Needle nose pliers
  6. Round 12mm jump ring

The first step is to drill a hole into two tips of the star. Be sure to do the side tips opposite each other.
You will do this to all six wooden stars. Once you have all of the holes drilled you’ll then paint the stars with the truffle chalk paint.
Be sure to paint both sides of each star.
Once you have all of the stars painted you’ll then add the Antique Wax. I like to brush the wax onto stars and then use a paper towel to wipe some of it off.
Once the Antique Wax is dry you’ll then add the jump rings as shown in photo above. I used needle nose pliers to open the ring and add the ring through the drilled holes. Once you have the ring through the holes you’ll use the pliers to squeeze the ring closed.
You can add as many stars as you want. This looks great around a candle or a large glass jar.
You can find the wooden stars on our website by clicking the link down below.

You can find the large 3 wick candle on our website by clicking the link down below.

This makes such a great decoration and can be added to a variety of things. I hope you’ll get creative and give this diy a try.

I love this!! So cute around the big white candle!! Would be a cute garland draped at the fireplace too. I might paint them ❤️🤍💙 and add diamond dust for the sparkle ✨ ✨ ✨ or glitter to match each color.
