DIY Wind Chime Using Dollar Tree Cookie Tins

by blewis | May 28, 2025 | Easter/Spring, Everyday DIY, Home Decor | 27 comments

If you’re following The Shabby Tree then you know that I love spending time on my front porch. I’m always trying to find ways to keep the birds from building nests on my porch. I love birds but I do not like the bird poop all over my porch. After looking through my craft supplies I decided to create some fun wind chimes to hang throughout my porch. These wind chimes will blow in the wind hopefully distracting the birds from coming onto the porch.
You’ll find the list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. Dollar Tree cookie tins
2. Ribbons
3. Stapler
4. Hot glue
5. Tinsel
6. Brass wreath rings from the Dollar Tree
The first step is to trace the ring onto one of the cookie tins. Be sure to trace the ring at least a half inch bigger. I’m using the middle ring which is a 10 inch ring.
Once you have the ring traced you’ll want to cut it out. You’ll want to cut the same circle out of the second cookie tin.
The next step is to tie the tinsel and ribbons to the ring.
You can add as many ribbons as you want to the ring. I added a few small pearl strands to my ring. Once you have the ribbons in place you’ll then add the cookie tins. You’ll want to add the cookie tins to both sides of the ring. Once you have the cookie tins in place you’ll then staple both cookie tins together going around the ring.
Once I had the cookie tins stapled together I then added tinsel going around the edge.
These are so easy to make and look great hanging on my front porch.
You can always add some fun bells to the ribbons to create a fun sound. I hope you’ll get creative and give these a try.
