The Dollar Tree has their Americana decorations out and I came across a star shaped chip and dip tray. I knew as soon as I saw it that we needed to get creative with it. There are so many different ways to get creative with this tray. I would like to turn this star tray into a decorative light up star.
You’ll find these trays mixed in with their Americana decorations.
The supplies that I’ll be using are listed down below.
1. One star shaped chip and dip tray from the Dollar Tree
2. Hot glue
3. Drill and a one inch hole saw bit.
4. Warm caramel spray paint by Rust-oleum
5. Waverly antique wax
6. Paint brush
7. Cinnamon
8. Two plastic lids ( mine are 1.5 inches wide and a half inch high
9. Polyurethane spray
10. Antique gold Rub’n Buff
11. One 5 watt clip light from our website
12. Wood appliques from Amazon
13. X-acto knife
Amazon has a variety of wood appliques. You can find the exact ones that I ordered on my Amazon store front by clicking the link down below.
I’ll be spray painting the tray and the wood appliques with the Warm Caramel colored spray paint. Once the spray paint is dry I then add the antique wax.
Once I had the antique wax on I then sprinkled on the cinnamon.
I used the hole saw to drill holes into the center of the tray and into the center of the plastic lids.
The lids will allow more space for the light bulb on the clip light. I’ll be glueing the lids the bottom of the tray.
I used the x-acto knife to cut the hole of the tray a little larger. Cutting the hole on the tray larger gives the light bulb more room.
I sprayed a polyurethane spray over the tray and wood appliques. Once the polyurethane was dry I then glued the wood appliques onto the tray.
I added some of the antique gold Rub’n Buff over the top of the wood appliques.
The clip light allows the center of the star to light up. You can find the clip light on our website by clicking the link down below.
This star was so easy to make and will look great any where in your home. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.
