We’re always getting creative here at The Shabby Tree and we’ve made some fun yard decor in the past. I thought it would be fun to create some decorative flowers for the yard that can also be turned into a bird feeder. I recently came across some paint for plastic by Folkart that I’ve been wanting to use. I think we can use this paint with some plastic items from the Dollar Tree to create some colorful flowers for the yard.
The supplies that I’ll be using are listed down below.
1. Paint for plastic by Folkart
2. Wood burning tool
3. One wooden dowel
4. Paint brush
5. One hammer
6. Plastic mirror from the Dollar Tree
7. Plastic ornament from the Dollar Tree
I’ll be using the four colors of the paint for plastic that are in the photo above.
The first step is to pop the hammer onto the back side of the mirror.
The mirror should crack and pop out of the plastic frame. Once the mirror is removed you’ll then start painting the frame.
You can paint these plastic frames any color that you want. It will take a few coats of paint to cover the frame. I love how easy this paint is to use and I love how it dries without feeling sticky.
You’ll want to set the frame aside to dry and move onto the ornament. I’ll be using a wood burning tool to create two holes for the dowel to slide through.
Be sure to do this step outside in an open area.
I used the wood burning tool to cut an opening out of the ornament. Once I had the opening done I then painted the ornament.
The colors I chose are so bright and colorful. You’ll find the directions for this paint on each paint bottle. I placed the ornament through the hole of the flower and then placed the dowel through the holes.
You can leave the plastic ornament as is or cut the hole to add bird seed. This turned out so cute and adds a pop of color to my yard.
I hope you’ll get creative and give this paint for plastic a try.
