I seem to find myself in the stores always looking at different holiday decorations. There are so many decorations that I love but I always seem to be drawn to decorative storage boxes. I thought it would be fun to make a simple gift box that can also be used as a decoration.
I found a book and a box of fruit snacks from the Dollar Tree that will make this decorative gift box very easy to make.
All of the supplies that I’ll be using are:
1. One hard cover book from the Dollar Tree
2. One box of fruit snacks from the Dollar Tree
3. Hot glue
4. X-acto knife
5. Spanish Moss
6. Black spray paint
7. Antique gold Rub’n Buff
8. Giant craft sticks from Walmart
9. One wooden ornament
You can use any hard cover book that you want.
You’ll want to remove the pages from the book.
This was very easy to do by sliding the x-acto knife down the front and back page.
The next step is to create the box for the center of the book. You’ll need some type of box that will fit your book. Be sure that the box is the same thickness that the book was.
I’ll be using a fruit snack box from the Dollar Tree. I used the x-acto knife to cut the front of the box off.
Once you have the top of the box cut off be sure to add some glue where needed to the box.
The next step is to cover the outside and inside sides of the box with the giant craft sticks.
You’ll cut the craft sticks to size.
Once you have the craft sticks cut you’ll then glue them onto the box.
Be sure to glue the craft sticks to the inside and outside of the box.
The next step is to glue the box to the inside of the book.
I added hot glue to the bottom of the box and then placed it into the book.
Once you have the box glued in place your book should shut.
I used a black spray paint over the entire book.
Once the spray paint was dry I then glued on some Spanish Moss.
I used hot glue to write Happy Halloween.
Once the hot glue was dry I then rubbed on the antique gold Rub’n Buff.
