I started pulling out my Valentine decorations and decided I needed something fun and unique for my kitchen. I have an idea of what I want to make and I also know that I want it to light up.

After looking through my craft supplies I decided that two of the Dollar Tree trays will work perfect for what I want to make.

The supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. Two 16 Inch round trays from the Dollar Tree

2. Scrap piece of lace

3. Scissors

4. Mod podge

5. Paint brush

6. Ebony colored Rub’n Buff

7. Hot glue

8. X-acto knife

9. Red beaded garland from our website

10. Marker

11. Piece of paper to make a pattern

The first step is to cover the back side of one tray with the Ebony colored Rub’n Buff.

I’m adding the Rub’n Buff to take away the shine on the plastic tray.

Once I had the Rub’n Buff added to the tray I then created my heart pattern. I want my heart to be smaller then the bottom part of the tray.

Once I had my heart pattern cut out I then used a black marker to trace the pattern onto the tray.

Once I had the heart traced onto the tray I then used an X-acto knife to cut it out.

Once I had the heart cut out I then set that tray aside.

I traced the second tray onto a scrap piece of lace as shown in photo above.

I cut the lace and then trimmed it to fit into the bottom of the tray.

Once I had the lace cut to size I then added some mod podge to the tray.

I added the lace to the top of the mod podge and then added more mod podge over the lace.

Once I had the lace in place I then set the tray aside to dry.

I’m adding a red bead garland the edge of the heart opening. I added a small dab of hot glue to secure the end bead in place. You can find this garland on our website by clicking the link down below.

I’m adding hot glue around the edge and then adding the bead garland as shown in photo above.

I cut the end being sure to leave some string to hold the garland in place. You can add a small dab of hot glue to prevent the beads from sliding off.

Once I had the beads in place I then glued both trays together.

I added a strand of battery operated lights to the inside.

You can find the lights that I’m using on our website by clicking the link down below.

I taped the lights going around the inside of the tray.

This is very easy to make and you can create it any color that you want. The black and white will look great on my kitchen counter. I hope you’ll get creative and give this light up heart a try.
