It’s time to start thinking about Valentine’s Day and how you want to decorate for it. I started pulling out my decorations and I decided that I want to make a simple rustic looking heart to add to my decorations.

The supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. Corrugated Cardboard

2. Rice paper from European Excellency

( optional)

3. Hot glue

4. Small tree branches from outside

5. Warm white acrylic paint from DecoArt

6. Decoupage

7. Paint brush

8. X-acto knife

9. Scissors

10. Spanish moss

11. Paper for a pattern

The first step is to cut a heart out of a piece of paper. This heart will be your pattern to trace onto the cardboard. You can make your heart as big or as small as you want.

I want to expose some of the corrugated cardboard on my heart. You want to be sure to trace your heart onto the corrugated cardboard in a horizontal direction.

Once I had the heart traced onto the cardboard I then used an x-acto knife to cut it out.

Once I had the cardboard heart cut out I then ripped some of the cardboard to expose the corrugated cardboard as shown in photo above.

You can show as much of the corrugated cardboard as you want. Once I was done ripping the cardboard I then painted both sides of the heart with the warm white acrylic paint.

Once I had both sides of the heart painted I then added a piece of rice paper to one side.

You can find the rice paper that I’m using on European Excellency by clicking my referral link down below.

I will be using the birds on my cardboard heart.

I added some decoupage onto the heart and then added the rice paper.

Once I had the rice paper onto the heart I then glued on some small tree branches and Spanish moss.

I want to add my heart to a large distressed spool from our website.

I added to wooden kabob sticks up into the heart to hold the heart onto the spool.

I trimmed the kabob sticks and then placed them down into the hole of the spool. You can find the spool on our website by clicking the link down below.

You can add a fun candle ring for a pop of red. The candle ring that I used is from our website. You can click the link down below to find the candle ring.

This heart is very easy to make and can be created so many different ways. I hope you’ll get creative and give this heart a try.
