I have so many fun and unique Americana decorations throughout my home that we made here at The Shabby Tree. After looking at all of my Americana decorations I thought it would be fun to create a light up flag to add this year.
We have a mini lath dough tray on our website that will make this flag very quick and easy to make.
The supplies that I’ll be using are listed down below.
1. One mini lath dough tray from our website.
2. Scrap piece of lace
3. Scissors
4. Hot glue
5. Small nails and hammer
6. Staple gun
7. One paint stir stick
8. Admiral Blue and Cardinal Crimson acrylic paint by Apple Barrel
9. One flexible cutting mat from the Dollar Tree
10. X-acto knife
11. One 20 count strand of battery operated lights
12. One artificial cream flower
13. One bling embellishment.
The first step is to remove one of the wooden side pieces as shown in photo above.
Set the piece that was removed aside for just a bit. The next step is to paint the bottom of the tray.
Once the tray is painted you’ll then add the strip of wood that was removed.
You’ll add hot glue to the paint stir stick and then add the tray and wooden strip as shown in photo below.
I added small nails to the paint stir stick and then a few staples to the side.
I traced the tray onto the lace and then cut it out.
I glued the lace to the inside of the tray.
I traced the tray onto the cutting mat and then cut it out.
I nailed the cutting mat onto the back side of the flag. You can use the x-acto knife to cut a small hole to add the lights.
I glued the flower and bling onto the flag as shown in photo above. You can find the flower that I used on my Amazon store front by clicking my referral link down below.
This flag was very easy to make and will look great mixed in with my Americana decor. I hope you’ll get creative and give this flag a try.
