Old Silver Makeover Using Rice Paper

by blewis | Jun 9, 2025 | Everyday DIY, Home Decor, Red, White, & Blue | 25 comments

I’ve been pulling out some of my old silver from my thrift store finds. I love adding old silver pieces throughout my home. Old silver can be used so many different ways. I thought it would be fun to give an old silver piece a fun makeover using a simple piece of rice paper.
The supplies that I’ll be using are listed down below.
1. Old silver piece
2. Rice paper from European Excellency
3. Mod podge
4. Scissors
5. Paint brush
6. Patina from WoodUbend

You can find the rice paper that I’m using from European Excellency by clicking the link down below.

The first step is to cut the rice paper to fit the center of the silver piece.
I placed the rice paper into the center of the bowl and placed small marks going around the edge.
Once you have the rice paper cut to size you’ll then want to add the mod podge to the silver piece.
Once you have the mod podge added you’ll then place the rice paper on top.
Be sure to add more mod podge over the rice paper.
Once the rice paper is securely in place you’ll then add some of the posh chalk patina. I used the pale gold first and then added the black.

This silver piece turned out so good and will look great mixed in with my Americana decor. I hope this will inspire you to keep your eye out for some old silver pieces.

Barb, this turned out amazing! I loved you used the rice paper and the eagle was an excellent B choice. I am looking for a piece of silver and want to add hydrangeas rice paper. I need to get busy & order the rice paper.
You are right, the silver pieces are hard to come by.
