Styrofoam Cross Craft Using Air Dry Clay

by blewis | Feb 28, 2025 | Everyday DIY, Home Decor | 23 comments

I recently bought a beautiful beaded stone garland with a cross from HomeGoods that I’ve been wanting to try and make. The garland that I bought is very heavy and I wanted to make something that would be lighter to hang. You can find the list of supplies that I’ll be using for this diy down below.
1. One sheet of styrofoam (1inch x 11.7inch)
2. Twelve 2.5 inch styrofoam balls
3. Styrofoam cutter or a knife
4. Wooden cross for a pattern
5. Nutmeg colored spray paint by Rust-oleum
6. Linen colored acrylic paint by FolkArt
7. Wire
8. Twine
9. Sculpey air-dry clay
The first step is to trace the cross onto the styrofoam.
Once you have the cross traced onto styrofoam you’ll then cut it out.
Once you have the cross cut out you’ll then add all of the styrofoam balls to the wire.
You’ll want to cover the styrofoam cross and the styrofoam balls with the air-dry clay.
Once you have the air-dry clay added you’ll then hang them some where to dry.
Once they are dry you’ll then add the Nutmeg spray paint.
Once the spray paint is dry you’ll then add some of the linen colored acrylic paint.
I looped the wire on each end of the garland. I used a twine to tie the cross to one end and made a tassel for the other end.
This was very easy to make and will look great any where in your home.
I hope you’ll get creative and give this fun DIY a try.
