If you’re looking for something fun and easy to make for your Christmas tree then you need to give this DIY a try! I find myself in Dollar Tree a lot and as soon as I saw this wooden snowflake I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I also thought I could do the same technique in a set of light up icicles they have.
The supplies you will need are:
1. Wooden snowflake (this is from the Dollar tree)
2. Light up iclicle (this is from the Dollar tree)
3. Cotton balls
4. Hot glue gun
5. Elmer’s glue Paint brush
6. Crystal glitter
7. Instant coffee (this is optional)
The first thing I did was coffee stain my cotton balls. This is totally an optional step. I like my things to look grungy which is why I like to coffee stain and in addition to giving things a grungy look it also makes them smell so good! I dipped the cotton balls into a bowl of instant coffee. I then squeezed them out real good and placed them into a garment bag for my dryer. I put them in the dryer with a large towel that will absorb the coffee while drying.
Once my cotton balls were dry I started gluing them onto my wooden snowflake. You will want to lightly rip apart the cotton ball before gluing to the snowflake.
Here I am gluing some cotton balls that are not stained onto a snowflake.
Once you have the whole snowflake covered with cotton balls then it’s time to paint on some Elmer’s glue. I just take a paint brush and paint the Elmer’s glue over the whole
snowflake.
Once the snowflake is covered with Elmer’s glue I then sprinkle on my crystal glitter.
I did the same technique to the light up icicle from the Dollar Tree. I placed the hot glue onto the icicle starting at the top. I then spread the cotton ball apart and began to stick onto the icicle. I really pulled my cotton ball so that it would be a thinner layer so that the light can shine through a bit.
Once the icicle is covered with the cotton ball I then spread the Elmer’s glue over the entire icicle. I’m using my finger because it’s easier to rub all over the cotton .
Once it’s covered with Elmer’s glue I then sprinkled the crystal glitter all over it.
I made some coffee stained and some regular. These are all so simple to make and I hope you all give them a try.
A standard, soldier-improvised candle holder was an upside-down boiler or can.
Please let me know if the back of snowflake should be painted
I love your ideas and look forward to more
