I love decorating for summer and I love incorporating Americana decor. We are always creating different types of all year long trees so I thought it would be fun to create a fun and unique Americana tree.

1. One paper mache cone ( mine is 15 inches)

2. American acrylic paint by DecoArt ( colors Warm White, Country Red and Deep Midnight Blue)

3. Paint brush

4. Hot glue

5. Scissors

6. One pack of bookmarks ( 2in x 6in)

I purchased the bookmarks from Hobby Lobby. You can use regular card stock paper but I found this to be much quicker.

I cut the bookmarks as shown in photo above. You will cut each book mark in half and then in half long ways. I then folded each strip in half and cut out what looks like a petal.

You will open up the strip and then cut the petal in half as shown in photo above.

The bookmarks are 6 inches long and 2 inches wide. I like using the bookmarks because they were very easy to cut and made this process much quicker.

It is best to cut a bunch of petals before starting.

The cone I’m using is 15 inches tall and I purchased it from Hobby Lobby.

I started glueing my petals onto the bottom area of the cone. You will only add hot glue to the top part of the petal. I started glueing my petals about an inch up from the bottom of the cone.

You will do one row at a time and then you will paint the row.

I will be starting with the Country Red at the bottom.

Once you have the first row painted you will then glue the second row on. Be sure to overlap your second row starting your first petal between the petals of the first row.

I did 2 rows of red and then I started a row of white.

You will continue working your way to the top.

I painted the top section with the Deep Midnight Blue.

This tree will take some time to make but it is so worth it. You can create this tree to be any color that you like. You can also find paper mache cones in all sizes. I hope you will get creative and give this a try.

This will look great any where in your home.
