If you’ve been with me for a while, then you know I love finding simple ways to turn everyday items into something beautiful for our home. This little centerpiece is one of those projects that looks like you spent a lot of time on it… but it’s actually so easy to create!
We’re taking a simple placemat from Walmart and giving it a fun makeover to create a unique centerpiece that’s full of charm and character. I had so much fun making this one and I love how you can customize it with your favorite colors and bling. This is the kind of DIY that you can customize for any season or occasion!

Here is what you are going to need for this DIY:
1. A jute woven placemat from Walmart.
2. Napkins From European Excellency
3. Bling From Totally Dazzled
4. Cherry Red DecoArt Paint
5. Antique White Apple Barrel Paint
6. Mod Podge
7. Lace ribbon from our website
8. Hot Glue Gun
9. Wire
10. Scissors
11. Paint Brush
12. Cookie Tin from The Dollar Tree
13. Mini clothespins

The first thing we want to do is give our placemat a little makeover with some paint. This will help that napkin stand out, and the red really brings in that fun Americana feel!

Once the paint was completely dry, it was time to add the napkin using some Mod Podge.
You can find the napkin that I am using here: https://europeanexcellency.com/r?id=b8h5gl

I started by cutting around the circle of the napkin to get it ready for the placemat.

Next, I used a little tape to remove the extra layers of the napkin that we don’t need.

I added a good layer of Mod Podge to the placemat to be sure the napkin would stay in place.

Once it was all ready, I started in the center and gently pressed the napkin down onto the placemat.

After I had it smoothed out how I wanted, I went over the top with another coat of Mod Podge.

I took four more napkins and cut out the larger flowers. Then I added them to a cookie tin from Dollar Tree using Mod Podge.

Once everything was dry, I cut the flowers out.

Next, I added some bling from Totally Dazzled. We’re celebrating their Grand Re-Opening, and I couldn’t resist using one of my favorites!
You can find the bling I used here: https://www.totallydazzled.com/?ref=16

I chose the piece with pearls and used a little hot glue to secure it to the center of one of the flowers.

For two of the flowers, I hot glued clothespins to the back so they can be clipped on later.

Next, it was time to grab the wire.

I folded the placemat in half and used the wire to secure the two ends together.

I tucked the wire in so it wouldn’t be visible on the sides. We will be using the stripe of wire that is visible in this next step.

Then I grabbed some of our 2.5″ wide cream lace ribbon and cut it into different lengths and cut a dovetail on each end.

I used a piece of wire to attach the ribbon to the wire that is holding the placemat together.
Once the ribbon was in place, I glued the flower with the bling right to the center.

Finally, I added some greenery and flowers to each side and clipped on the flowers using the clothespins.

This turned out so cute, and I love how easy it is to switch up for different seasons. It’s such a fun way to create something unique for your home using simple items!

I love this. Love the napkin. So pretty.
Would not change anything about it
