I find myself in thrift stores all the time buying a variety of trays. Silver trays are amazing and can be used for so many things. I have made a variety of silver trays into chalkboards which I love to use throughout my home. These are very simple to make and your going to love them.

The supplies you will need are:

1. Chalkboard paint ( I am using the Rustoleum chalkboard paint which I purchased in Home Depot)

2. Tray ( I am using a sliver tray and a plastic tray from a local thrift store)

3. Paint brush

You will first want to make sure you mix your chalkboard paint well. I am giving the center of my silver platter one light coat.

You can use tape to mark off your edges if you would like but I am just painting carefully to be sure to stay in center of tray. You will want to give one full coat.

I let my first coat dry before adding a second coat.

I will usually give my trays 2 to 3 coats of chalkboard paint. Be sure to let the paint thoroughly dry in between coats.

Once your chalkboard paint is thoroughly dry you can write messages with basic chalk.

I love my message boards and if your following The Shabby Tree you know I use them a lot. You can do this technique to so many things. I used this chalkboard paint on walls in my home and business. This is such an easy DIY to do and I hope you will all give it a try.
