I’ve been looking at all of the flowers that the stores have been putting out for summer. We’ve created a lot of different flowers here at The Shabby Tree but we’ve never made a cactus. I thought it would be fun to try and create a faux cactus using a sock.

The supplies that we’ll be using are:

1. One long white sock ( you can find these in the Dollar Tree)

2. Poly-fill stuffing

3. Scissors

4. Twine

5. Paint brush

6. Toothpicks

7. Americana acrylic paint by DecoArt ( Aloe, Avocado and Cinnamon Stick)

8. Small felt flower

9. One 3″ Peat Pot

The first step is to add the poly-fill to the sock. You can make this cactus as big or as small as you want. Once you have the poly-fill stuffed up into sock you’ll then tie the end if the sock into a knot.

Cut the end of the sock off and then tie some of the twine around the knot.

Once you have the twine in place you’ll then wrap the twine around the sock as shown in photo below.

I wrapped the twine around the knot each time I came over to the other side of the sock.

The next step is to paint the sock with the Avocado colored paint.

Once you get the sock covered with the Avocado you’ll then add some of the Aloe colored paint down the strips of twine.

The next step is to add the toothpicks.

I added the toothpicks to sections between the twine.

Once you have the toothpicks in place you’ll then paint the peat pot.

I used the Cinnamon Stick colored paint on my peat pot.

You’ll glue a flower to the top and place the cactus into the peat pot. These are very easy to make and will look great any where in your home.

I hope you’ll get creative and give this fun cactus a try.
