DIY Gold Hoop Centerpiece Using Dollar Tree Items

by blewis | Mar 4, 2025 | Everyday DIY, Home Decor | 34 comments

Here at The Shabby Tree we seem to always find fun and unique ways to decorate our home. I thought it would be fun to create a home decor item that can be used as a centerpiece and can also be changed out throughout the year.
You can find the list of supplies that I’ll be using down below.
1. Two hula hoops from the Dollar Tree
2. One wall shelf from the Dollar Tree
3. Metallic Gold spray paint
4. Four nuts and bolts
5. Drill and drill bit
6. Twine
The first step is to remove the wrapping on the hula hoops.
Once you have the wrapping removed you’ll want to add some twine to the top of both hoops.
You can use some of the twine that comes with the shelf.
I added twine in three sections at the top of both hoops.
Once you have the hoops connected at the top you’ll then want to drill four holes at the bottom.
You’ll drill two holes at the bottom of each hoop. Be sure to have the holes spaced evenly on both hoops.
You’ll use the nuts and bolts to secure the hoops to the wall shelf. Once you have the hoops secured in place you’ll then add the spray paint.
I used zip ties to attach two baby grass garlands to the hoops.
You can find the baby grass garlands on our website by clicking the link down below.

I added a strand of 50 count battery operated lights. You can find these lights on our website by clicking the link down below.

This makes such a fun decoration that can be changed out for any season. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.

Like this idea and wondering where you got the cute bunnies and their baskets. Will try to tune in tonight. Been battling seasonal allergies all day long – runny nose and sneezing my head off! Has about drained all my energy too! Crazy Kentucky weather!

This craft is amazing and you’d never guess it started off as a couple of hula hoops from DT! The baby grass garland from The Shabby Tree is one of my all time favorite garlands, as it just looks amazing any where it’s placed. I have never had to fluff or shape my garland and it looks amazing. I believe the gold makes it really look high-end. Love everything about this craft and looking forward to making it with my Shabby Tree family.
