I have been cleaning up from Christmas and I seem to have a lot of cardboard boxes. We have used cardboard for a few of our Diy’s here at The Shabby Tree which got my mind going. I thought it would be fun to create a quick and easy heart sign using a simple piece of cardboard. This will be a fun sign to use in your home for Valentine’s Day.

The supplies that I’ll be using for this are:

1. One piece of cardboard ( mine is 26” x 24”)

2. Cream colored chalk paint

3. Hot glue

4. Gold tinsel from our website

5. White tissue pom pom garland from the Dollar Tree

6. Nautical rope from the Dollar Tree

7. Antique gold Rub’n Buff

8. Scissors

The first step is to give the cardboard and old worn look. I pulled some of the top layer off to show the corrugated cardboard.

I want this cardboard to look old and have an antique feel.

I added some of the chalky finish paint onto the cardboard.

I drew a heart shape in the center of the cardboard.

I used the hot glue to attach the nautical rope onto my drawing.

I glued some of the gold tinsel around the outside of the nautical rope as shown in photo above. The link for the tinsel is down below.

The next step is to open 3 of the paper pom pom’s.

I added some of the Rub’n Buff to the pom pom’s and then glued the pom pom’s to the left side of the heart.

I decided to cut a few leaves out of the cardboard to add to the pom pom’s.

I wanted a very old look and feel which is why I ripped the cardboard in different areas.

This was very easy to make and I just love how there are so many different ways to get creative with it.
