I love decorating for Fall and Halloween. We have been creating a variety of pumpkins here at The Shabby Tree and I thought it would be fun to change it up. I seem to have a few mummy decorations and I thought it would be fun to create a mummy lantern to add to them.

The items that I’ll be using are:

1. One recycled plastic pretzel container from Walmart

2. Decoupage

3. Paint brush

4. Lace curtains or cheesecloth

5. Scissors

6. Black paint

The first step is to remove the label from the container. I used warm water and Goo Gone.

You will want to cut your curtains or cheese cloth into strips. Your strips can be as wide and as long as you want. I did coffee stain my curtains and you can see how I do that by clicking the link down below.

Once my strips were cut I started adding some to the container using the decoupage.

You want to leave some of the jar showing. Be sure to leave a small area of the jar showing so that you can paint on some eyes.

I added strips of a lace curtain first with the decoupage. You will add decoupage then the strip then more decoupage. Once the strips were dry I then wrapped some strips of a mesh curtain around the container.

I tied the strip in a knot at the top of the container and then wrapped it around the jar.

You will wrap a few strips around the jar and you will just tie a knot to end them. I left a few strips hanging down from the top. Once I had the strips how I wanted them I then used the black paint to paint on some eyes.

I added some Spanish moss to the inside to help keep my battery operated candle centered.

This mummy lantern is so easy to make and you can use any type of container that you want. I hope you will get creative and give this fun Halloween decoration a try.
