I found myself in Target looking at their Christmas decorations and I came across an amazing ornament set. This is a nativity ornament set and I want to use them to create a hanging nativity scene.

This is an 8 piece ornament set for $15.00.

Some other supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. One 16” x 20” canvas

2. Black chalky finish paint

3. Flat Black spray paint ( optional)

4. Paint brush

5. Scissors

6. Wire cutters

7. Hot glue

8. Walnut colored gel stain by DecoArt

9. Warm Caramel colored spray paint

10. Rub’n Buff ( colors Spanish Copper and Antique Gold)

11. Four giant craft sticks

I first sprayed the flat black spray paint onto the canvas.

The next step is to cut the hanger part off of the ornaments. I used wire cutters for this part.

Once I had all of the hanger parts cut off I then sprayed the nativity pieces with the warm caramel colored spray paint.

Once the spray paint was dry I then used some of the Rub’n Buff onto the pieces.

The spray paint still had a sticky feel to it so I added a light coat of the black chalky finish paint to the canvas. Once that was dry I then cut the four giant craft sticks to form the shape of a barn.

Once I had the craft sticks cut I then used the Walnut colored gel stain on them.

You will glue all four craft sticks onto the canvas as shown in photo above. I glued the star to the very top.

I added some hot glue and Spanish moss to the bottom part of the canvas.

Once I had the Spanish moss glued in place I then glued on the nativity pieces.

This was a beautiful ornament set but I just love how this makeover turned out. I hope this will inspire you to get creative and change things up.
