If you love an old wooden dough bowl or wooden scoop then you will want to check out this craft idea. I love decorating with old dough bowls and old wooden scoops but they seem very hard to find. They are always fun to add candles too and display throughout your home. I have an easy way to create a fun and unique primitive scoop using simple Dollar Tree items.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. One splatter screen from the Dollar Tree

2. Decorative nautical rope from the Dollar Tree

3. Scissors

4. Canvas material (I am using a piece of a canvas drop cloth)

5. Hot Glue

6. Paint brush

7. Cinnamon

8. DecoArt Suede (color charcoal)

The first step is to trace the splatter screen onto the canvas material. I traced it about an inch larger around the edge.

You will want to cut out two pieces of the canvas. These will be glued to the front and back side of the splatter screen.

You will need to bend the splatter screen to form the shape of a scoop. I bent the sides up and and pushed down of the front and back end of the splatter screen. You want to keep bending the sides until you have the shape you want.

Once you have the shape you will want to glue on the canvas pieces.

Add hot glue to the sides and center of the splatter screen.

Be sure to add hot glue the the center of the splatter screen. You want to make sure that the fabric is flat to the splatter screen.

You will want to be sure to pinch around all the edges of the splatter screen and make sure that they are all glued shut.

I then trimmed the excess material around the edge of the splatter screen.

You will want to add the nautical rope around the handle of the splatter screen.

You will keep adding g hot glue as you wrap the nautical rope around the handle.

It is now time to paint the canvas. I am using Suede by DecoArt but you can use any type of paint you want. This is a charcoal color and will give the appearance of a dark brown.

You will want to paint both sides of the scoop. Once I had it completely painted I then sprinkled on cinnamon.

I rubbed the cinnamon all over the paint. The cinnamon is going to help give the scoop a primitive look.

This is so easy to create and will look so pretty with any type of greenery and battery operated candle.

I hope you will all get creative and give this a try.
