It is time to start decorating for Fall and one item you must have are a few pumpkins. Pumpkins can be made and created so many different ways. We have created a variety of fun and unique pumpkins here at The Shabby Tree that can be used all throughout your home. I know it is always fun when you can recycle an item to create a different item. I am going to show you how to easily recycle a water jug and turn it into a fun and unique pumpkin.

The supplies I will be using are:

1. Empty water jug

2. Box cutter

3. Brown paper lunch bag

4. Paint brush

5. Rust-oleum rustic orange spray paint

6. Rust-oleum hunter green spray paint

7. Green moss

8. Burlap leaves from the Dollar Tree

9. Hot glue

10. Maple colored gel stain by DecoArt

11. Spiced pumpkin colored paint by DecoArt

The first step is to use the box cutter to cut an opening around the handle of the jug as shown in photo above.

Once you have the opening cut you will want to give a thin coat of the rustic orange spray paint to the outside of the jug.

Once the spray paint is dry you will then add the spiced pumpkin paint and the maple gel stain.

You will want to try and create the look of a real pumpkin. I added stripes as shown in photo above.

Once you have the jug painted it is time to create the stem to your pumpkin.

You will cut the end of the lunch bag off so that both ends are open as shown in photo below.

You will twist the top part and leave an area of the bottom part to glue onto the jug.

You can use the hot glue to hold the twist in place.

You will glue the bottom part of the stem over the top of the jug.

Once the stem is in place you will want to glue some of the moss to the top of the pumpkin.

I gave the burlap leaves a coat of the green spray paint.

I then glued two leaves to the top of the pumpkin as shown in photo above.

The back opening is where you will added battery operated lights or a battery operated candle.

This looks beautiful lit up at night and this can be placed any where in your home or on your porch. I hope you will get creative and give this fun pumpkin a try.
