I seem to find myself in the Dollar Tree a lot looking for items to get creative with. We have used different Dollar Tree items for some of crafts before and it’s always fun to get creative and change them up. I found some plastic oval trays in the Dollar Tree that I know can be used for creating a fun and unique egg.

The supplies that I’ll be using for this egg are:

1. Two plastic oval trays from the Dollar Tree

2. Hot glue

3. X-acto knife

4. Elmer’s glue

5. 20 count battery operated lights

6. Rice paper from European Excellency

7. Chenille ribbon from Hobby Lobby

8. Rust-oleum metallic spray paint ( color Satin Nickel)

9. Find glitter ( color Sunbathe)

I spray painted both trays with the Satin Nickel spray paint. You can paint your trays any color that you want.

I painted front and back of both trays.

You’ll want to cut the center of one tray out. I drew a line to show what area I want to cut out.

You’ll use the X-acto knife to cut the center piece out. You can cut your opening as big or as small as you want.

I had to trim my opening just a bit to smooth out any curves that I had.

I added Elmer’s glue to the inner edge and then sprinkled on the glitter.

I will be adding a sheet if printed rice paper to the center of the second tray. This is optional but I love the look that it gives my egg.

You can find rice paper on European Excellency. I have a link down below that will take you right to it. Be sure to use code Barb and you’ll get a 10% discount on your purchase.

I ripped the edge of the rice paper to give it an oval shape.

I added Elmer’s glue to the tray and then placed the rice paper on top.

I added more Elmer’s glue over the rice paper. When that dried I then added some Elmer’s glue around the edge of the rice paper.

Once I had the Elmer’s glue around the edge of the rice paper I then sprinkled on some of the glitter.

The next step is to glue the two trays together using the hot glue.

I decided to add some chenille ribbon around the outer edge of my egg.

I found a wooden cross in Walmart that I added some glitter to.

The cross will look great standing in my egg.

I taped a 20 count strand of lights to the inside edge of my egg. This will allow the inside of my egg to glow at night. You can find the lights that I’m using on our website by clicking the link down below.

This egg is very easy to make and there are so many different ways to get creative with it.

I added some Spanish moss to the bottom and placed the cross inside. This egg will look great any where in your home. I hope you’ll get creative and give this a try.
