Summer is coming and it’s time to start decorating for it. We recently made some cute watermelon slices that can be used in your dough bowls or on your two tiered tray. I just love how the watermelon slices scream summer. After going through my craft supplies I realized we can make a fun watermelon pocket using simple round placemats. This pocket would make a fun door hanger for the summer.

The supplies that I’ll be using are:

1. Two 15” round placemats

2. One 9” round beaded loop

3. Upholstery thread and needle

4. Straight pins

5. Paint brush

6. Americana acrylic paint by DecoArt ( colors Black, White, Leaf Green, Hauser Light Green,Berry Red and Vintage Pink)

The first step is to fold each placemat in half and use the straight pins to hold them in place.

I purchased my placemats from HomeGoods. You can get a set of six for $12.99.

Once you have the placemats folded in half you’ll then place one on top of the other. You’ll sew them together leaving the straight side open.

Once you have them sewn together you’ll then remove the straight pins and start painting .

I started with the Leaf Green first. Be sure to paint both sides of the pocket.

I painted the Leaf Green then the Hauser Light Green and then the White as shown in photo above.

I added some of the Vintage Pink with some of the White and then added the Red.

I added some of the red to the inside of the pocket.

The next step is to add the beaded loop to the inside of the pocket. You’ll want to secure the beaded loop by sewing it to the pocket.

You can find the beaded loop that I used on our website by clicking the link below.

The last step is to use the Black paint to paint on the seeds to the watermelon slice.

This pocket was very easy to make and I hope you’ll give it a try.
